    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is the age limit?

We don’t have a maximum age limit though we do prefer children be at least 5 years old as we generally feel that by that age they are old enough to follow and understand most basic instructions. Ask the branch instructor if you’re unsure about your child’s suitability.

Do I need to make a booking?

No. While it’s a good idea to know you’re coming you can just turn up at your local class. You can send an inquiry to a branch instructor if you have any questions via the training centre page. Most instructors are there at least 15 minutes before class begins so head along early if you want to ask any question in person.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

For insurance purposes, yes. However you should not be discouraged by this, training in Rhee Tae Kwon-Do is very safe, and all exercises take place in a controlled environment under the watchful eyes of the instructors and leaders.

    How much does it cost?

Rhee Tae Kwon-Do offers a No Obligation and Unlimited FREE Trial at all of our trining centres which allows you or your child to give Rhee Tae Kwon-Do a go for as long as needed before deciding if we’re right before joining. We also offer discounts for multiple family members. Training centres run different specials & promotions at different times of the year so get in touch with your instructor and they will discuss fees with you in the class or you can contact them directly to see what the fees for your nearest training centre are. As a member you’re able to train at any of our Training Centres at any time for a single monthly training fee. With more than 50 centres across Brisbane, and the opportunity to train 6 days a week, that’s great value. All promotions leading up to Black Belt are included in your monthly fee.

    Is there a uniform?

Yes, as a member of Rhee Tae Kwon-Do all members train in full uniform. When you join a new uniform and white belt will be organised and provided. Replacement uniforms can be purchased through the training centre if required.

How often do you need to train a week?

We encourage members to train as often as possible, depending on their age, and their level within the Rhee Tae Kwon-Do organisation. Once per week would be the minimum however almost all training centres operate at least twice per week. As a member you are free to train at any training centre. With over 50 training centres in Brisbane you’ll be able to find another close by that trains at different times allowing you to train up to 6 times a week at no extra charge.

Can I train at any Training Centre?

Yes you can. Rhee Tae Kwon-Do has training centres all across Australia and many of our training centres aren’t far from others allowing you to train multiple times a week if you’re looking to get some additional training in or miss a night for whatever the reason. As a paid member this doesn’t cost you anything on top of your regular training fees. Having training centres all over Australia allows you to keep training if you move to another state or simply find yourself in a different suburb or region.

Do you teach useful Self Defence?

Yes we do. There are many different self defence classes out there though some are better than others. A lot of classes teach self defence against an equally sized opponent, or make assumptions such as being pinned down on the ground. There are even classes that specialise in defence against weapons, something that is less common here in Australia.

At Rhee Tae Kwon-Do we equip students with the knowledge and ability to defend themselves in a range of real-world situations and with practical and commonsense methods, whether that be against someone larger, someone stronger or older. We will also look at ways to defend against someone who might be armed or even multiple attackers. Most importantly we teach students how to avoid risky situations to begin with, and if they can’t, how to assess a situation and work out the best way to protect themselves as well as members of their families.

    Do children fight adult members?

No, though children and adults will attend the same classes we ensure children and adults are taught and train separately unless when doing individual activities.

Will I or my child be injured?

Training takes place in a fun, safe, controlled environment. All training takes place under the watchful eyes of the instructors and leaders, so the chance of injury is minimised.

    Do you hold competitions?

No, we are a traditional martial art school. While we teach the art of combat and self-defence and students face opponents in controlled, non-contact sparring we do not compete or hold competitive tournaments. Each student progresses at their own pace and we feel competition is not required for a student to learn, grow and succeed.

    Are your instructors qualified?

Yes. Rhee Tae Kwon-Do Instructors are certified and officially appointed by the organisation and World Master Chong Chul Rhee. Our Professional Instructors are dedicated, skilled martial artists, specially selected with great consideration and are carefully trained to bring out the best in their students. Each Rhee Tae Kwon-Do Instructor demonstrates great care, understanding, consideration and fortitude to support student development in pursuit of the Art. Rhee Tae Kwon-Do Instructors hold working with children accreditation and police clearance (Blue Card holders).

    Can I become an instructor?

Most definitely. All instructors were once Rhee Tae Kwon-Do students that wanted to continue learning and decided to help share the knowledge they had acquired on their journey from white belt to black belt.

What is an Unlimited Free Trial?

Some martial art schools offer a free first lesson, or even your first week at no cost. At Rhee Tae Kwon-Do we offer an unlimited free trial which simply means you’re welcome to give us a try for as long as you think you need before deciding if Rhee Tae Kwon-Do is right for you or right for your children.

We normally have students join after their first or second lesson, but there’s no rush to make you decide. Once you’ve made up your mind simply let the instructor know and they’ll guide you through the joining process.
